Overview

An ATM flow links a customer action to device behavior and a host response. This simulator is being developed for cash-machine withdrawal, balance and PIN-change journeys with device states modelled on NDC (NCR Direct Connect) and DDC (Diebold Direct Connect), the two protocols that drive most self-service terminals, so the intended flow can be explored as a connected sequence.

The ATM Simulator will represent a self-service cash machine. It will originate ISO 8583 financial requests (withdrawal, balance, transfer, PIN change), model device-level NDC and DDC state flows (card read, PIN entry, dispense, eject) the way an NCR or Diebold Nixdorf cash machine does, and drive them to a host or switch, the same way the POS Simulator models an attended terminal.

The ATM Simulator type is scaffolded in ISO8583Studio, and its configuration & runtime screens are being built. This page describes the intended capabilities: the workflows below use sample data and do not represent a released simulator interface. In the meantime, the simulators available now cover the same message flows — see Where it fits.

Planned capabilities

The intended scope for ATM Simulator. These capabilities are being developed and may evolve before release.

01

Withdrawal journeys

Planned withdrawal flows will connect customer selections, host decisions and ATM device states.

Planned
02

Balance and PIN flows

Balance inquiries and PIN changes are included in the planned transaction scope.

Planned
03

NDC/DDC device states

The simulator is being developed to represent device states alongside the transaction journey.

Planned
Planned scope
  • Cash withdrawal, balance inquiry, mini-statement and PIN-change transaction flows
  • NDC / DDC device state modelling (card read, PIN entry, dispense, eject)
  • Configurable cassettes and note denominations with dispense simulation
  • ISO 8583 messaging to a host or switch over TCP/IP
  • Electronic journal / transaction log
Note
Scope is indicative and may change as the feature is built. Follow the roadmap for status.

Where it fits

The ATM sits at the acceptance edge of the network, alongside the POS Simulator. Pair it with the Host Simulator to authorize its transactions.
