Overview

An electronic cash register starts the payment action at checkout and hands it to the terminal. This simulator is being developed to explore that exchange for sale, void and refund flows, from the initial request to the result returned to the register.

The ECR Simulator will model the cash-register side of an ECR ↔ POS integration: it issues transaction requests (sale, void, refund, settlement) to a connected terminal and consumes the results, over serial (RS232) or TCP links.

The ECR Simulator type is scaffolded in ISO8583Studio, and its configuration & runtime screens are being built. This page describes the intended capabilities: the workflows below use sample data and do not represent a released simulator interface. In the meantime, the simulators available now cover the same message flows — see Where it fits.

Planned capabilities

The intended scope for ECR Simulator. These capabilities are being developed and may evolve before release.

01

Sale requests

Planned sale flows will show how a register sends a checkout payment to the terminal.

Planned
02

Void requests

Explore the planned exchange for a register-initiated void and its terminal result.

Planned
03

Refund requests

Refunds form a third planned flow, following the action from the register through to its result.

Planned
Planned scope
  • Sale, void, refund, pre-auth and settlement request messages
  • ECR ↔ POS integration over RS232 serial and TCP/IP
  • Configurable register protocol framing and field mapping
  • Basket / line-item and tender modelling
  • Response handling and receipt data capture
Note
Scope is indicative and may change as the feature is built. Follow the roadmap for status.

Where it fits

The ECR drives the POS Simulator from the merchant application side, completing the register → terminal → host chain.
